FM Solutions provides services in a variety of capacities: as direct consultants to clients, supplemental staff to clients, and sub-consultants to design and construction project teams.
We’re a small firm with longstanding relationships in the region, allowing us to remain nimble and scale-up or scale-down as projects change course.
As corporations shifted to leaner in-house facilities and real estate teams we recognized the need for small, tactical teams with a strategic perspective and focused experience in facilities planning and operations - teams able to respond quickly to support the transactional, design, construction and occupancy phases of projects.
FM Solutions was co-founded in 2003 by Sara Cowherd and Wendy Henley. Our projects are of various sizes and requirements, and in diverse industries. With more than 30 years in workspace planning, both Sara and Wendy remain actively engaged in project activities.
Sara L. Cowherd, CID, President and Owner
A seasoned executive, Sara began her career in Facility Management for a financial institution. As design manager in an architectural firm she led teams in project planning, design, documentation and relocation management. Sara graduated Cum Laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Interior Design and is a Certified Interior Designer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Sara serves as a Board Member and Corporate Secretary of CultureWorks, a 501(c)3 organization whose goal is to drive a vibrant community by inspiring, enabling and cultivating world-class arts and culture in the region. She is an active member of the Richmond, Virginia Chapter of IFMA; and has served as President, Vice President and Membership Chair.
Outside of the office Sara serves as a church deacon and a volunteer for community events. She is a proud MINI car owner and enjoys RVA festivals, antiquing, U2 and zombies.
Wendy D. Henley, CID, Principal and Owner
Wendy leads our Restack teams from strategic planning through occupancy. Most projects in her early career were in the government and institutional sectors. Since 1998 she has focused on corporate planning, restacks and renovations. Wendy earned her BS in Housing, Interior Design and Resource Management from Virginia Tech, and is a Certified Interior Designer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Wendy is an active member of the Richmond Chapters of NAWBO and CREW, and has served on the Boards of NAWBO and the Northside Family YMCA. She stays connected and informed through other industry associations.
When out of the office she enjoys outdoor activities, family gatherings, escapes to big water, and the absence of an agenda.
Susan R. Hinz, CID, LEED AP ID+C, Project Manager
Susan is an accomplished interior designer and project manager with 25 years in the profession. As a leader or collaborator, her enthusiastic approach and high energy inspire teams and clients alike. Prior to joining FM Solutions Susan’s design focus was healthcare and corporate interiors.

Susan graduated Cum Laude from Virginia Tech with a BS in Interior Design. She is a Certified Interior Designer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and maintains LEED certification, an associate practitioner in interior design and construction.
Outside of the office Susan, her husband and four children enjoy VA Tech football, movies, and serving their church and community. Running, biking and being outside near water are also at the top of Susan’s list of favorite things to do.
Jenni Honn, Project Manager
Jenni shines in her dual roles as Project Manager and Move Manager. She multi-tasks with precision as she shifts between creative and tactical activities and planning.

Jenni earned her BFA in Interior Design at Virginia Commonwealth University, and has spent the majority of her design career coordinating interior renovations, relocations and furniture installation for corporate clients. Jenni also has 19 years of business administrative and management expertise, and is fluent with multi-generational clients and peers in the workplace.
Jenni has been married to her college sweetheart for 26 years and has two sons. She is active in several professional and community associations, is an avid Yogi, and enjoys traveling, volunteering and playing Bunco with friends.
Bill Hockman, Move Manager
Bill has planned and managed design projects for more than 30 years. He has served as in-house corporate Space and Facilities Project Coordinator, and practiced interior design for private firms. In addition to planning and design, Bill has extensive experience in procurement, construction, and FF&E installation.

Bill earned his BFA degree in Interior Design at Virginia Commonwealth University and is NCIDQ Certified in Interior Design. Bill's calm demeanor, accessibility, and attention to details are essential elements of a good Move Manager ... and his clients agree.
Outside of the office, Bill enjoys singing barbershop music, driving with the top down, and spending time with family. He is a talented artist in the mediums of oil, watercolor, and oil pastel painting; pen and ink drawing; and photography.
